About Balance Transfer Credit Cards

Many credit card providers offer special incentives to gain new customers, these include a low interest introductory period on balance transfer cards. They allow previous bills on existing store or credit cards to be transferred to a new card with a lower rate of interest.

Most providers offer 0% interest on balance transfers for upto a year. We recommended you check the standard APR on your credit card, because once your 0% APR period comes to and end you could be hit with a high interest rate, so make sure you check this out first.

Before you transfer your balances it is recommended to check if there are any balance transfer, or handling fees to pay. Normally the provider will charge 2-3% of the balance you plan to transfer. You may also want to check if there is a time limit that balances must be transferred by, in order to get the low interest rate. Most people prefer cards that offer low interst for so many months to those that have an end date to them as if it takes to long long to transfer your balances you could end up losing out on the low interest period.

If you want to pay off your previous balance by transfering it to a balance transfer credit card and you still want to make purchases we recommend looking for a card that offers low introductory rates for purchases as you will most likely be charged your standard APR using a balance transfer card.

If want to keep the 0% interest offers then maybe a card that offers you a low rate for the life of your balance would suit you.
